2-How can I estimate the length of my films?

If you want to know how many meters your movies are but you know how long they last, you can calculate the meters according to the following:

For Super 8:

Every minute projected at 18 fps. measures 4.75 meters.

Every minute projected at 24 fps. measures 6.10 meters.

For 8mm:

Every minute projected at 16 fps. measures 3.66 meters.

Every minute projected at 18 fps. measures 4.11 meters.

For 16mm and Super 16:

Every minute projected at 24 fps. measures 11 meters.

You can also estimate the duration of your footage by looking at the diameter of the reels.

Small camera rolls of around 7 cm diameter measure 15 meters.

Larger reels usually have the film length written on their sides where you can see the movie length in minutes, feet and meters. Usually you will find different marks for sound film and for silent film, due to the thickness of the magnetic sound strip.
